New patch could cut opioid addiction after ankle surgery

NCT ID NCT06949826

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 7-day buprenorphine skin patch can safely control pain after ankle fracture surgery and reduce the need for addictive opioids. About 100 adults who have never taken opioids before will receive either the real patch or a placebo, along with standard pain care. Researchers will track pain levels, opioid use, and whether participants still need opioids 3 months later.
