Breath sniffing tech may replace scans for mesothelioma patients
NCT ID NCT06037941
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a new breath test, called an electronic nose (E-Nose), to see if it can measure how well treatment is working for people with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). Researchers will collect breath samples from 20 patients before and during standard treatment, and compare the results to CT scans and blood tests. The goal is to find a simpler, non-invasive way to track the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- E-Nose breath test
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this breath test could offer a simple, non-invasive way to monitor how well mesothelioma treatment is working, potentially reducing the need for frequent scans.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 20 people. The breath test may not accurately reflect treatment response, and results may not apply to all patients.
