Scientists probe hidden link between breathing muscles and lung disease suffering

NCT ID NCT05903001

Summary

This study aims to understand if weakness in the main breathing muscle (the diaphragm) is common in people with lung diseases like asthma, COPD, fibrosis, or pulmonary hypertension, and if it can predict future health problems. Researchers will measure muscle strength, lung function, and symptoms in 800 participants during a single lab visit, then check in by phone over 18 months to track their health. The goal is to learn if measuring diaphragm function helps doctors better understand and predict the course of these chronic breathing conditions.
