New zapping pattern shows promise for stubborn depression
NCT ID NCT06730841
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new way of using a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) for people with treatment-resistant depression. The new approach uses a higher dose and more frequent sessions than usual. The study was very small, with only 3 participants, and its main goal was to see if the treatment was safe and feasible to do, not to prove it works.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could offer a new, non-drug option for people with depression that hasn't improved with standard treatments.
What could go wrong
This was a very small feasibility study with only 3 participants. It was not designed to prove the treatment works, and larger trials are needed to know if it is truly effective.
