Could a gentle brain zap boost memory in Alzheimer's and lewy body dementia?

NCT ID NCT05326750

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a gentle, non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tACS can improve memory and thinking in people with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia, and related conditions. Two hundred participants will receive either real or sham (fake) stimulation over four sessions. Researchers will measure changes in memory, attention, and other thinking skills to see if the stimulation helps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive, drug-free way to ease memory and thinking problems in several types of dementia.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only a single session of stimulation, so any benefits may be small or temporary. The results may not apply to all patients or lead to a lasting treatment.
