NCT ID NCT02559752

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether computer-based thinking assessments are practical for children aged 4 to 21 with brain tumors who are receiving proton beam radiation therapy. Researchers will measure thinking skills before, during, and after treatment to see how radiation affects memory, attention, and other abilities. The goal is to gather data that could help doctors choose treatments that better protect children's thinking skills.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

computer-based thinking tests (NIH Toolbox Cognitive Battery)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that proton radiation helps preserve thinking skills in children with brain tumors, guiding future treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is an early feasibility study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that proton radiation is better than other types, and results may not apply to all children.
