Scientists probe Brain's wiring during surgery to unlock secrets of movement

NCT ID NCT07056361

Summary

This study aims to understand how deep brain stimulation (DBS) works to improve movement and speech in people with conditions like Parkinson's disease or essential tremor. Researchers will test 60 patients who are already scheduled for DBS surgery, adding extra measurements during their operation to see how the stimulation affects brain signals and muscle activity. The goal is to learn the biological mechanisms behind DBS to potentially improve future treatments, but this study itself does not test a new treatment.
