Can zapping the brain boost speech therapy for aphasia patients?

NCT ID NCT06921265

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to speech therapy can improve language skills in people with primary progressive aphasia (PPA), a condition that slowly damages language areas of the brain. About 75 participants (45 with PPA and 30 healthy controls) will receive either speech therapy alone or speech therapy plus TMS. The goal is to see if the combination leads to better naming and communication, and whether personalized TMS works better than a standard approach.
