Teen bone health under the microscope: new study looks at why some girls develop weak bones

NCT ID NCT07164248

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This completed study looked back at the medical records of 74 adolescent girls aged 12 to 21 who had bone density scans. Researchers wanted to find out which girls are most at risk for low bone density (osteopenia or osteoporosis), especially those with missed periods or other gynecologic issues. The goal was to learn more about risk factors so doctors can spot problems earlier. No new treatment was tested.
