Light on bones: laser therapy may boost bone health in postmenopausal women
NCT ID NCT07734922
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) to a physiotherapy programme can improve bone health in postmenopausal women with osteopenia or osteoporosis. Forty women will receive either real or sham laser sessions on their lower back, three times a week for four weeks, alongside the same physiotherapy routine. Researchers will measure a blood marker of bone formation and quality of life before and after treatment to see if the laser makes a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- High-intensity laser therapy (HILT) — a pulsed near-infrared laser applied to the lower back
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-drug way to strengthen bones and improve quality of life for women with low bone density.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants. The laser may not improve bone health, and any benefits might be modest or temporary.
