Double blood thinner strategy after vein stenting aims to prevent Re-Clotting
NCT ID NCT04694248
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking a blood thinner (rivaroxaban) plus aspirin after a vein-stenting procedure keeps the vein open longer and prevents new clots. About 172 people with deep vein thrombosis and narrowed iliac veins will receive the combination for 6 months (rivaroxaban) and indefinitely (aspirin). The main goal is to see if the vein stays open at 12 months without causing major bleeding.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Rivaroxaban and Aspirin
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point to a safer, more effective way to prevent vein re-clotting after stenting, reducing long-term complications like post-thrombotic syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a moderate-sized, early-stage trial (172 participants) with no placebo control. The main risk is increased bleeding from combining two blood thinners, and results may not apply to all DVT patients.
