Bladder cancer breakthrough? new drug combo aims to stop tumors returning
NCT ID NCT06488222
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether giving two chemotherapy drugs (gemcitabine and docetaxel) directly into the bladder can prevent low-grade bladder cancer from coming back. About 34 adults with intermediate-risk disease will receive the treatment. The main goal is to see how long people stay cancer-free after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
gemcitabine and docetaxel (given directly into the bladder)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option to lower the chance of bladder cancer coming back in people with low-grade intermediate-risk disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drugs may not reduce recurrence as hoped, and side effects from bladder instillation are possible.
