Could tailored antibiotic doses save more endocarditis patients?
NCT ID NCT04647331
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is collecting data from 150 patients with a serious heart infection called endocarditis. Researchers will measure antibiotic levels in the blood and use that information to build a computer model. The goal is to find the best dose for each patient, which could help more people survive and avoid side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
beta-lactam antibiotics (ampicillin, penicillin G, cefotaxime, cloxacillin)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to personalized antibiotic dosing for endocarditis patients, potentially improving survival and reducing side effects.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The model needs validation and may not improve outcomes in practice.
