Could a simple leg movement ease sciatica pain? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07573124
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding mechanical lumbar traction to a specific spinal mobilization technique (SMWLM) provides better pain relief and function than the mobilization alone for people with lumbar radiculopathy (sciatica). Thirty-two adults with a confirmed disc bulge will receive either the combined treatment or mobilization alone, plus standard physiotherapy, over 4 weeks. The goal is to see which approach reduces pain and disability more effectively.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Spinal Mobilization with Leg Movement (SMWLM) and Mechanical Lumbar Traction
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a more effective physical therapy approach for reducing pain and improving mobility in people with lumbar radiculopathy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The added benefit of traction over mobilization alone is uncertain.
