New combo aims to fight recurrent brain tumors
NCT ID NCT05345002
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests a combination of two drugs—all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and retifanlimab—in 55 people with recurrent IDH-mutant glioma, a type of brain tumor. The goal is to see if the combo can shrink tumors or slow their growth. Participants take ATRA pills for 14 days each cycle and get retifanlimab infusions every 28 days, continuing until the disease worsens or side effects become too severe.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and retifanlimab (a PD-1 inhibitor)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with recurrent IDH-mutant glioma, potentially shrinking tumors and delaying progression.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (55 people) with no control group. The combination may not work better than existing treatments, and side effects from immunotherapy and ATRA could be significant.
