New study aims to create a universal score for assistive tech performance
NCT ID NCT07407725
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is developing a standard test to measure how well assistive technologies (like eye trackers) and brain-computer interfaces help people with spinal cord injury or ALS use computers and phones. Researchers will test 60 participants, including healthy volunteers and people with these conditions, using a custom digital assessment interface. The goal is to create a reliable index that combines performance, clinician, and patient reports to compare different devices.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Eye tracker (Tobii Dynavox PCEye 5)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could create a standard tool to compare different assistive technologies, helping doctors and researchers choose the best device for each person.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on developing a measurement tool, not testing a treatment. It may not lead to any direct improvement in patient care.
