New radiation approach targets dozens of tumors at once

NCT ID NCT04530513

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a new radiation technique called SABR in 13 adults with cancer that had spread to more than 10 spots in the body. The goal was to see if giving high-dose, precise radiation to all cancer sites is safe. Researchers looked for side effects and quality of life changes. This is the first step in exploring whether SABR can help people with very advanced cancer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that SABR is safe for treating many cancer spots at once, potentially offering a new option for advanced cancer patients.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study with only 13 participants. It focuses on safety, not effectiveness, and may not lead to better outcomes. High-dose radiation to many sites carries risks of serious side effects.
