Can surgery and radiation tame spread of HER2+ breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT07053085
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding surgery and targeted radiation to standard treatment helps people with HER2-positive breast cancer that has spread to up to 5 spots in the body. About 178 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus surgery and radiation. The goal is to see if the combination delays cancer progression.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgery (lumpectomy or mastectomy) and radiation therapy (locoregional radiation and stereotactic body radiation therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could become a new standard to control or delay progression of HER2-positive breast cancer that has spread to a few spots in the body.
What could go wrong
This is a phase II trial with 178 participants, so results are still preliminary. Adding surgery and radiation may not improve outcomes and could increase side effects.
