Blood tests may reveal earliest signs of Alzheimer's

NCT ID NCT06880406

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at early changes in mitochondria (the energy centers of cells) and metabolic markers in blood cells of people with Alzheimer's or related dementias. Researchers will compare these measures between those with and without Alzheimer's to find clues about how the disease starts. The goal is to better understand the disease process and identify potential early warning signs.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify early biological markers for Alzheimer's, potentially leading to earlier diagnosis or new treatment targets.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly lead to therapies, and findings may not apply to all patients.
