First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 06, 2026 · Updated 41 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking spirulina (microalgae) or seaweed (macroalgae) supplements for 20 weeks can improve heart health and gut bacteria in 150 adults aged 50 and older who have heart disease, diabetes, or kidney disease. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two algae types or a placebo. The researchers will measure changes in blood markers and gut microbes to see if these supplements offer any benefits.
