AI could help GPs catch hidden liver disease before It's too late

NCT ID NCT07305324

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tests whether an AI tool called FibroX can help primary care providers better diagnose advanced liver fibrosis in people with MASLD, a common liver condition. Forty providers will review simulated patient cases, using either standard methods or FibroX, which gives a risk score and explanation. The goal is to see if the AI improves diagnostic accuracy, trust, and ease of use, potentially leading to earlier detection and better care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

FibroX (AI software tool)

What this could lead to

If successful, this AI tool could help primary care doctors catch liver scarring earlier and more accurately, potentially reducing unnecessary referrals and missed diagnoses.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 40 providers using simulated cases, not real patients. The AI may not work as well in real-world clinics or with diverse populations.
