Fat Tissue's role in blood sugar: new study targets obesity mystery

NCT ID NCT02994459

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how fat tissue takes up sugar in people with obesity, comparing those with normal blood sugar to those with insulin resistance. Researchers will use labeled sugar infusions and PET scans to measure sugar uptake in fat and muscle. The goal is to understand why some obese individuals stay metabolically healthy while others do not. A small weight-loss program is included for obese participants.
