New study tests which technique best stops colon polyps from coming back

NCT ID NCT06476145

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares two methods used during colonoscopy to remove large, flat colon polyps: marking the edges before removal or using heat to treat the edges after removal. The goal is to see which method better prevents polyps from growing back. About 342 adults with polyps 20 mm or larger will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
endoscopic mucosal resection with margin marking or snare tip soft coagulation
What this could lead to
If one technique works better, it could reduce the need for repeat colonoscopies and lower the risk of colon cancer from recurring polyps.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage comparison of two existing techniques, not a new drug or cure. The difference in recurrence rates may be small, and results may not apply to all polyp types.
