Wearable tag aims to spot heart failure patients at risk of returning to hospital

NCT ID NCT04550052

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested whether a small wearable sensor called the Spire Health Tag could reliably track heart rate, activity, sleep, and stress in heart failure patients after they leave the hospital. The goal was to see if the device could capture useful data for at least 80% of the time over 30 days. The study was terminated early and enrolled only 36 participants, so the findings are limited.

Active substance

Spire Health Tag (wearable sensor)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help doctors identify heart failure patients at risk of returning to the hospital, enabling earlier interventions.

What could go wrong

This was a small pilot study that was terminated early, so results are limited. The device may not reliably capture data in all patients or predict readmissions accurately.
