Temporal lobe epilepsy
MONDO:0005115A localization-related (focal) form of epilepsy characterized by recurrent seizures that arise from foci within the temporal lobe, most commonly from its mesial aspect. A wide variety of psychic phenomena may be associated, including illusions, hallucinations, dyscognitive states, and affective experiences. The majority of complex partial seizures (see epilepsy, complex partial) originate from the temporal lobes. Temporal lobe seizures may be classified by etiology as cryptogenic, familial, or symptomatic (i.e., related to an identified disease process or lesion). (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p321)
Also known as: epilepsy of temporal lobe, epilepsy, familial temporal lobe, familial temporal lobe epilepsy syndrome, temporal lobe epilepsy

Can invisible electric fields quiet the Brain's seizure signals?
Disease control ENROLLING_BY_INVITATIONThis trial tests whether a non-invasive technique called temporally-interfering electric field stimulation (TIEFS) can reduce abnormal brain activity linked to epilepsy. Researchers will measure seizure-related signals in patients with medial temporal lobe epilepsy who are alread…

Scientists dig into brain genes to unlock epilepsy mysteries
Knowledge-focused OngoingThis study looks at gene activity in brain tissue removed during surgery from 10 people with temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal sclerosis. The goal is to find which genes are linked to the disease and may help predict outcomes. No new treatment is being tested; instead, resea…

Zapping the Brain's memory network: a new hope for epilepsy?
Knowledge-focused ENROLLING_BY_INVITATIONThis pilot study at the University of Chicago is testing whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called TMS can improve memory and reduce seizure-related brain activity in people with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). Thirty-four adults with drug-resistant MTLE wil…
