Summary

This study reviews past dental records to see how effective scaling and root planing (a deep cleaning procedure) is for treating gum pockets that are 5 to 8 millimeters deep. Researchers will analyze data from 110 patients treated by dental students over two years. The goal is to confirm whether this standard treatment works well for deeper pockets, which are harder to clean.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
scaling and root planing (deep cleaning procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that deep cleaning is effective for treating deeper gum pockets, helping guide dental care.
What could go wrong
This is a retrospective study, so it looks back at past data, not a controlled experiment. Results may not apply to everyone, especially smokers or people with diabetes who were excluded.
