New drug combo may cut opioid use in ventilated ICU patients

Summary

This study tested whether adding a painkiller called nefopam to standard care could reduce the amount of strong opioids needed for sedating critically ill patients on breathing machines. 60 adults participated in a double-blind trial. The goal was to see if nefopam could help patients stay calm and comfortable with fewer opioids.
