First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding a painkiller called nefopam to standard care could lower the amount of strong opioids needed by ICU patients on breathing machines. 60 adults were randomly assigned to receive either nefopam or a placebo alongside usual sedation. The goal was to see if nefopam could safely reduce opioid use while keeping patients comfortable and calm.
