Lung cancer combo trial halted early – what we know
NCT ID NCT04396535
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding bintrafusp alfa (an immunotherapy) to standard chemotherapy (docetaxel) helps people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer who have already tried other treatments. Only 10 people took part before the study was stopped early. The goal was to see if the combination could slow cancer growth better than chemo alone.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Docetaxel and bintrafusp alfa
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for advanced lung cancer patients who have already tried standard therapies.
What could go wrong
The trial was terminated early with only 10 participants, so results are very limited. It is unclear if the combination is better than docetaxel alone, and side effects from both drugs can be serious.
