New study pits two pain blocks against each other for breast surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT06177665

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study compared two ultrasound-guided nerve blocks—erector spinae plane (ESP) block and rhomboid intercostal block (RIB)—for managing pain after breast surgery. 84 patients undergoing unilateral breast surgery received one of the two blocks, and researchers measured how much morphine they needed afterward. The goal was to see which block provides better pain control and reduces opioid use.
