Scientists probe brain 'explosions' to ease fibromyalgia pain

NCT ID NCT04606095

First seen Nov 12, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looks at how certain brain activity patterns, called explosive synchronization, relate to chronic pain in people with fibromyalgia. Researchers will compare brain scans of 150 participants (fibromyalgia patients and healthy volunteers) and test whether a gentle, non-invasive brain stimulation technique can change these patterns and reduce pain. The goal is to better understand the brain's role in chronic pain and explore a potential new treatment.
