Summary

This study aims to understand how being overweight and having early blood sugar changes might affect brain development in teenagers at risk for type 2 diabetes. Researchers will follow 117 teens aged 12-17 for nearly two years, comparing brain scans and thinking tests across three groups: normal weight, overweight with normal blood sugar, and overweight with early blood sugar changes. The goal is to identify which metabolic factors most influence brain structure and function during this critical developmental period.
