Yoga nidra meets pain science: a new approach to chronic back pain
NCT ID NCT06979713
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether adding a guided relaxation technique called yoga nidra — focused on pain acceptance — to a home program of yoga and pain education can reduce pain intensity and improve well-being and sleep in people with chronic low back pain. Twenty-four participants will be randomly assigned to receive either yoga nidra with pain acceptance intention or relaxing music alongside the same yoga and education sessions. Both groups practice at home twice a week for six weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a home-based program combining yoga postures, pain education, and either yoga nidra with pain acceptance intention or relaxing music
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, home-based mind-body routine that eases chronic low back pain and improves sleep and well-being.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The two groups are similar, making it hard to tell if yoga nidra adds extra benefit.
