New biodegradable graft could improve dialysis access for kidney patients
NCT ID NCT06494631
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new type of graft (called aXess) for people with end-stage kidney disease who need hemodialysis but can't have a standard fistula. The graft is made of a biodegradable material that may help reduce complications. About 140 adults will be enrolled to see if the graft is safe and works well for dialysis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Xeltis Hemodialysis Access (aXess) graft
What this could lead to
If successful, this graft could provide a safer, more durable option for hemodialysis access in patients who cannot have a standard fistula.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, single-arm study with no comparison group, so results may not be definitive. Risks include infection, bleeding, and graft failure.
