Weight loss drugs may help young adults ditch blood pressure meds

NCT ID NCT07364175

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether powerful weight loss drugs (like semaglutide or tirzepatide) can lower blood pressure enough for young adults (ages 18-40) with obesity and mild hypertension to stop taking daily blood pressure pills. About 60 participants will either receive the weight loss drug or continue standard care (medication and lifestyle advice). The goal is to see if weight loss alone can control or even cure hypertension, reducing the need for lifelong medication.
