Brush vs. forceps: which biopsy method spots esophageal problems better?

NCT ID NCT04312633

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is creating a large database to compare two ways of taking tissue samples from the esophagus: standard forceps biopsies and a brush-based method called WATS3D. Researchers want to see if the brush method helps doctors find Barrett's esophagus or early warning signs of cancer more often. Up to 90,000 adults with heartburn or known esophageal conditions will take part.
