New imaging technique could make heart ablation safer and more effective
NCT ID NCT03713866
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether combining detailed heart scans (MRI/CT) with electrical mapping can help doctors better target and treat scar-related ventricular tachycardia (VT), a dangerous heart rhythm. Twenty people with VT who already have an implanted defibrillator will undergo extra imaging before and after their standard ablation procedure. The goal is to see if this approach can identify ablation targets ahead of time and explain why some ablations fail.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors better plan and evaluate ablation procedures for dangerous heart rhythms, potentially reducing repeat procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (20 people) focused on imaging methods, not a treatment itself. It may not lead to immediate improvements in patient outcomes.
