Can VR or Hypno-VR make hysteroscopy less painful? small trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07173231
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This pilot study will test whether virtual reality (VR) or a combination of VR and hypnosis (Hypno-VR) can help reduce pain and anxiety during a diagnostic hysteroscopy, a common gynecological procedure. 45 adult patients will be randomly assigned to standard care, VR, or Hypno-VR. The main goal is to see if these approaches are feasible and acceptable, with early data on pain and anxiety relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Immersive Virtual Reality Distraction (IVR) and Hypno-Virtual Reality (HVR) devices
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a non-drug way to reduce pain and anxiety during hysteroscopy, making the procedure more comfortable for patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (45 people) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The results may not apply to other procedures or settings, and VR may not work for everyone.
