Summary
This study is testing whether virtual reality (VR) training can help people with substance use and mental health disorders improve their social functioning and quality of life. Researchers will compare VR training plus standard care against standard care alone in 102 adults receiving inpatient addiction treatment in Norway. The VR program uses scenarios to practice social cognition, communication, and interaction over 5 weeks.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, engaging way to help people with addiction and mental health issues build social skills and improve daily functioning.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (102 people) testing a novel approach. The VR training may not be more effective than standard treatment, and some people may find it uncomfortable or impractical.
