VR games could replace traditional physio for knee pain
NCT ID NCT06639867
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a home-based virtual reality system can help people with knee osteoarthritis do their physiotherapy exercises in a more engaging way. Fifty adults aged 45 and older with knee pain will be randomly assigned to either the VR program or standard physiotherapy. The main goal is to see if a larger trial is possible, not yet to prove the treatment works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-immersive virtual reality physiotherapy system
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more engaging and convenient way to do physiotherapy at home for knee osteoarthritis pain.
What could go wrong
This is a very small feasibility study with only 50 people, so results may not apply widely. The VR system may cause motion sickness or falls, and it is not yet proven to be better than standard care.
