VR goggles teach Post-Surgery Self-Care in new trial

NCT ID NCT07283432

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether using virtual reality glasses for discharge education helps patients better care for themselves after bariatric surgery. Sixty adults who had laparoscopic weight-loss surgery were split into two groups: one received standard care, the other watched a 15-20 minute VR training video before leaving the hospital. Researchers measured self-care ability using a questionnaire before surgery and at 1 and 3 months after. The goal was to see if VR makes learning easier and more effective.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a more engaging way to teach patients how to care for themselves after weight-loss surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 patients. The effect on long-term health or weight loss is not measured, and VR may cause discomfort in some users.
