NCT ID NCT06923358

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether watching 10-minute 360° nature videos twice a week for 12 weeks can improve quality of life, mood, and agitation in nursing home residents with dementia. Sixty residents will be randomly assigned to either the virtual nature program or their usual care. Researchers will measure changes in quality of life, depression, and agitation at 4 and 12 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Virtual reality nature videos (360° videos of Norwegian landscapes)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to boost well-being and reduce depression and agitation in people with dementia living in nursing homes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. The benefits may be modest or not last beyond the 12-week program. Some residents may not tolerate the VR headset.
