First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tested whether village doctors in rural China can effectively deliver an exercise program for people with knee osteoarthritis. Sixteen participants either received supervised exercise three times a week for 12 weeks followed by independent exercise, or usual care. The goal was to see if this approach is feasible and can reduce pain and improve knee function.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a low-cost, accessible way to manage knee osteoarthritis pain in rural areas with limited healthcare.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 16 participants, so results may not apply widely. The exercise program requires ongoing commitment, and benefits may vary.
