Home video workouts may cut hospital stays for lung disease patients
NCT ID NCT05119556
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 13-week home exercise program, done via live video calls, can reduce hospital readmissions in people with COPD. 301 patients who were recently hospitalized for a COPD flare-up will either get the video rehab or standard care. The goal is to see if this approach improves breathing, quality of life, and saves money.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
video telehealth pulmonary rehabilitation (exercise sessions via videoconferencing)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a convenient home-based program to help COPD patients avoid repeat hospital stays and improve their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a single study with 301 participants, and the intervention is behavioral, so results may vary. It may not work for everyone, and home exercise carries a small risk of injury or falls.
