A 5-Minute video before burn dressing: could it calm a Child's fear?
NCT ID NCT07796243
First seen Sep 01, 2026 · Last updated Sep 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether brief, video-guided jaw relaxation or breathing exercises can reduce anxiety and fear in children aged 4 to 10 who are having burn dressings changed. Children in a pediatric burn unit will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: jaw relaxation, breathing exercises, or routine care. The children in the intervention groups will follow a 5-minute video right before their dressing change. Researchers will measure anxiety and fear at three points and time how long the dressing takes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Video-guided jaw relaxation and video-guided breathing exercises
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these brief video-guided exercises could offer a simple, drug-free way to reduce anxiety and fear in children during burn dressing changes.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small and early, so results may not apply broadly. The exercises may not reduce anxiety or fear enough to make a meaningful difference.
