New radiation method aims to safely blast liver tumors

NCT ID NCT05727787

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial tests a special radiation technique called vGRID SBRT for people with liver cancer that cannot be surgically removed. The main goal is to find the highest safe dose and check for side effects. Up to 18 adults with advanced or metastatic liver cancer will receive a single, high-dose radiation treatment. Researchers hope this approach will control tumor growth with fewer side effects than standard radiation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) using vGRID technique

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new, well-tolerated radiation option to shrink liver tumors in people who cannot have surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial (18 people) focused on safety, not effectiveness. There is a risk of liver or gastrointestinal toxicity from high-dose radiation.
