Double drug attack on ulcerative colitis shows promise
NCT ID NCT06095128
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether combining two drugs—vedolizumab and tofacitinib—can quickly bring moderate to severe ulcerative colitis under control. About 65 adults will receive both drugs for 8 weeks, and those who respond will continue on vedolizumab alone for nearly a year. The goal is to see if this approach leads to remission and long-term symptom control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- vedolizumab and tofacitinib
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new dual-drug strategy to quickly control ulcerative colitis and then maintain remission with a single drug.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 65 participants and no placebo group, so results may not apply broadly. Combining two immune-suppressing drugs also raises infection risks.
