Nerve-Sparing surgery may ease digestive woes after spleen removal
NCT ID NCT07462091
First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tests a surgery that removes the spleen and disconnects certain blood vessels to treat complications of cirrhosis, like enlarged spleen and high blood pressure in the liver. The key twist is that surgeons use the vagus nerve as a guide to protect it, aiming to reduce common post-surgery problems like diarrhea and slow stomach emptying. The study will enroll 15 adults with cirrhosis who have not responded to other treatments.
