Could a Sit-Down MRI make prostate cancer screening easier?

NCT ID NCT03474913

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether an upright MRI (where you sit) can detect prostate cancer as well as the standard closed MRI and PSA blood test. About 550 men at risk for prostate cancer will get both types of MRI and answer comfort questionnaires. The goal is to see if the upright MRI is a good, more comfortable screening option.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Upright MRI (Indomitable Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner, 0.6 T)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more comfortable and accessible MRI option for prostate cancer screening, potentially improving detection rates.
What could go wrong
This is an early feasibility study with 550 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The upright MRI may not be as accurate as standard MRI, and it is not a treatment.
