Ultrasound to reveal hidden bleeding after EMG in blood thinner users
NCT ID NCT07166302
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is checking whether a common nerve test called needle EMG causes muscle bleeding in people taking blood thinners (DOACs). About 30 minutes after the test, researchers will use ultrasound to look for any small bleeds in the muscles where the needle went in. The goal is to find out if the procedure is safe for this group. 70 adults on DOACs are being recruited.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that needle EMG is safe for people on blood thinners, helping doctors avoid unnecessary precautions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study (70 people) that only looks for bleeding right after the procedure. It cannot prove long-term safety or apply to all patients.
